Adani Ennore Container Terminal Strengthens Chennai’s Position in South India’s Container Trade
Adani Ennore Container Terminal (AECTPL) is strengthening its role as an important container gateway for South India. Located about 30 km north of Chennai Port, the terminal provides 24-hour road access, on-dock rail connectivity and links to major highways and container freight stations.
Adani Ports
AECTPL is designed to support the movement of containerised import and export cargo, giving manufacturers, exporters and importers in the Chennai region access to international shipping networks.
🚢 Terminal Infrastructure
AECTPL has a 400-metre quay and is equipped with four quay cranes with a 65-metre outreach, supported by 12 electric rubber-tyred gantry cranes. The terminal also has approximately 4,000 ground slots for container stacking.

📦 Strong Logistics Connectivity
One of AECTPL’s major advantages is its connectivity to the South Indian hinterland. The terminal has:
24/7 approach-road access
On-dock rail connectivity
Road connections to four National Highways
Close proximity to Chennai’s Container Freight Stations
Electronic data interchange facilities for cargo and vessel information
These facilities are designed to improve container evacuation and reduce turnaround times for trucks and vessels.

🌏 Importance for EXIM Trade
The terminal is strategically important for exporters and importers across Tamil Nadu and the wider South Indian manufacturing belt.
Industries such as automobiles, engineering, electronics, chemicals and other manufacturing sectors depend on reliable container logistics to move raw materials into India and finished products to overseas markets.
AECTPL’s connectivity can therefore help strengthen the entire supply chain — from factories and warehouses to ports and international shipping lines.
🤝 Adani–MSC Partnership
AECTPL is operated by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) in partnership with Terminal Investment Limited (TiL), the terminal arm associated with Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC). APSEZ holds 51%, while TiL holds 49%.
The Times of India
The partnership is aimed at expanding container-terminal capabilities and serving the growing South Indian trade market.
